Tennis Shoes on PE days!

Tennis shoes are the dress code on every day of school, but very important on PE days.
"Shoes: Tennis shoes • No lights, wheels, or cleats allowed. • Shoes must be laced and tied at all times." (Policy Book). 

  • K & 1st grade goes to PE on Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday.
  • 2nd & 3rd grade goes to PE on Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday.
  • 4th & 5th grade goes to PE on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday.
  • Wapelhorst Preschool (3/4 yr olds): Tuesday
  • Wapelhorst PreK (4/5 yr olds): Monday
  • Wapelhorst Afternoon: Tuesday
  • Erickson PreK: Wednesday

 

Wellness Challenge Information

Dear Families,

We're excited to announce the start of our first Wellness Challenge Week! This challenge begins this Friday, September 12th. These weekly challenges will be introduced at school and are designed to be continued at home as a family throughout the week. Each month, we’ll focus on a different aspect of wellness, such as physical, spiritual, mental, and social wellness. Each challenge is for one week and they are one time a month.

Wellness Challenge Dates:

Wellness Fridays are listed on the school calendar (SCOS Calendar), and here are the upcoming dates:

  • Sept 12 - Sept 18 | Wellness Friday: Sept 19 (Shirt color: Yellow)
  • Oct 3 - Oct 9 | Wellness Friday: Oct 10 (Shirt color: Orange or Halloween-themed)
  • Nov 7 - Nov 13 | Wellness Friday: Nov 14 (Shirt color: Brown or Camo)
  • Dec 5 - Dec 11 | Wellness Friday: Dec 12 (Shirt color: Green or Christmas-themed)
  • Jan 9 - Jan 15 | Wellness Friday: Jan 16 (Shirt color: Blue or Grey)
  • Feb 20 - Feb 26 | Wellness Friday: Feb 27 (Shirt color: Red or Pink)
  • Mar 13 - Mar 26 | Wellness Friday: Mar 27 (Shirt color: Purple or Religious Themed)
  • Apr 10 - Apr 16 | Wellness Friday: Apr 17 (Shirt color: White or Tie-Dye)  
Dress Code for Wellness Fridays:

Students who participate in the challenges at home will have the privilege of not wearing their uniforms on Wellness Fridays. Instead, they may wear:

  • Tops:
    • Spirit shirts
    • T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters that match the theme color
    • Shirts must have sleeves and should not be tied or adjusted
    • Mighty Milers shirts are always allowed (even if they do not match the theme color)
  • Bottoms:
    • Ankle-length blue jeans (no holes or frayed hems)
    • Sweatpants, joggers, or workout pants
    • Boys may wear uniform bottoms
    • Not allowed: leggings, workout shorts, or PJ pants

Important Notes:

  • You may find information about the challenges on:
    • The ½ sheet note that your oldest child brings home, this will have all the details!

    • Mrs. Elson's PE Webpage, at the beginning of that month
  • This will be the only email about Wellness Challenges this year to minimize inbox clutter.

  • The Challenge is announced in the morning and afternoon announcements every day of the challenge. 

April Wellness Challenge

Morning Mighty Milers

  • What is Mighty Milers?
    • Mighty Milers is set up so students can walk/jog laps around the perimeter of the playground inside the fence. All students in the school Prek - 8th have a QR card and as they do the lap they scan their card and track their laps. As they continue to participate, they will receive incentives for their participation. Students can participate in mighty milers in the morning before school, during recess, and during afternoon extended day.
  • What is Morning Mighty Milers?
    • Morning Mighty Milers is an additional opportunity for physical activity every day. It is before school begins for those who need to be dropped off prior to 7:40. 
  • What are the times?
    • Change: Only Wednesday, Thursday, Frida
    • 7:15-7:40
    • Parents, please remember to have you students stay in your car until 7:15, even if the door is unlocked for other individual situations. The cafeteria and Mighty Milers does not begin until 7:15 AM. 
  • Incentives for mighty milers
    • Change: Each Month is a new award and new challenge.
    • Change: There will no longer be full year, on going awards. This means, students might receive less than previous years.
    • Change: Prizes will only be handed out at the first of the following month. 
    • Lost incentives will not be replaced.
    • T-shirts can be worn on Field Day and Wellness Fridays. 
  • Winter or rainy days?
    • Mighty milers will be held in the gym. Students walk in through the front of the building.
    • Parents please always check to see if you can see Mrs. Elson on the playground. If not, please send students into the building were they will check in with the cafeteria
  • PreK & Kindergarten parents 
    • Please use your best judgement with your child. If they are typically nervous or apprehensive in the mornings, please send your students into the building for the cafeteria, until they may seem more confident. Unless they have a willing sibling or friend to help them get started! I am typically the only adult out there with 60-75 students.
      The Cafeteria will be open for students like in previous years.

  • An alternative to sitting in the cafeteria, if you have to be at school prior to 7:40.
    (School starts at 7:50 AM, Classroom doors open at 7:40 AM)

  • Kids HIIT Workout: Kids’ HIIT Workout This 30-minute-long exercise YouTube video is the perfect excuse to get moving along with your kids

  • Karate: Karate for Kids  Who wants to be a ninja? Join Abbey Manser on her YouTube channel to learn basic karate skills for kids.
